Two individuals, Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, from Mozambique, and Leonard Phiri, 43, from Zambia’s Sinda District, have been arrested by the Zambia Police Service on suspicion of conspiring to harm President Hakainde Hichilema.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, the suspects were found in possession of various charms, including a live flunyemba, and were allegedly employed by Nelson Banda, who is currently on the run and is the younger brother of Emmanuel Jay Banda.
Mr. Hamoonga indicated that their intention was to use these charms against the Head of State, having already received an advance payment of K16,500 from a total agreed sum of K30,000. Upon completion of their task, they were promised a total of K2,000,000.
The suspects have been officially charged with practicing witchcraft, possessing charms, and cruelty to wildlife. They are currently in police custody and are expected to face court proceedings soon.
