The Lusaka Magistrates Court has determined that Independent Lumezi constituency Member of Parliament Munir Zulu has a case to answer regarding charges of seditious practices.
Zulu is accused of labeling the Eastern province as a dangerous area for individuals from the Southern region. Magistrate Faidess Hamaundu has ruled that the evidence presented by the State thus far is sufficient to require Zulu to present his defense.
In response, Zulu stated that he intends to give sworn testimony and summon 50 witnesses to assist in his defense. The allegations claim that from May 25 to May 27, 2024, he accused President Hakainde Hichilema of directing the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs to target him and others, thereby inciting discontent among the citizens of Zambia.
Furthermore, Zulu is said to have declared the Eastern province off-limits to Southerners, allegedly aiming to foster animosity between different communities. The case is scheduled for a hearing on January 20, 2025, where he will begin presenting his defense.
