government has designated 80 hectares of land in Chongwe for the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to establish a FIFA-funded technical center and new headquarters.
The center will feature top-quality football pitches, accommodation, and facilities aimed at enhancing coaching and refereeing excellence.
This announcement was made yesterday by Kangwa Chileshe, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts.
“We are optimistic that this initiative will elevate Zambia’s football to new heights, inspire countless youth, and solidify our reputation as a football powerhouse in Africa,” Chileshe stated.
He noted that the project, valued at US$10 million, is expected to generate employment, boost local businesses, and promote tourism within the area.
“The project’s development has been planned with long-term sustainability in mind, integrating green practices such as environmentally friendly construction methods and energy-efficient systems,” he added.
Chileshe also highlighted the importance of community involvement, stating that local stakeholders will be engaged to ensure the facility benefits the surrounding community and fosters a sense of ownership.
Furthermore, the project is set to generate revenue by hosting various tournaments, training camps, and workshops, which will contribute to its maintenance and the reinvestment in football initiatives.
He underscored how the project aligns with the government’s vision for youth empowerment and national progress.
This initiative comes on the heels of the successful refurbishment of four Zambian stadiums through a separate FIFA-funded program.
In related news, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga remarked that the construction of the technical center on the allocated land represents a significant achievement for FAZ, made possible through its collaboration with FIFA under the FIFA Forward program.
“The technical center will transform football in Zambia, providing diverse facilities to meet various needs. It will include high-quality football pitches, accommodation, a center of excellence, a gymnasium, medical facilities, and conference spaces, along with the FAZ headquarters and academy facilities,” Kamanga explained.
“Once completed, the technical center will be a pivotal advancement for the development of our game
