Dora Siliya, the former Chief Government spokesperson, has announced that she will not run for the Petauke Central seat, which she once held. In a heartfelt Facebook post, she expressed her gratitude for the support she received from people encouraging her to contend in the upcoming Petauke Central by-election in February.
Since Christmas, speculation about her candidacy had been widespread, and she felt honored to receive many encouraging messages from across Zambia and beyond. She particularly appreciated the backing she received from the UPND, acknowledging it as a significant gesture.
Reflecting on her history, Siliya noted that Petauke Central holds a special place in her heart after her dedicated service since 2006. She mentioned accomplishments such as the establishment of roads, bridges, schools, clinics, and hospitals, along with initiatives to enhance clean water access and food security for the residents.
Siliya reminded the public that she has not been politically active since 2021, clarifying that she had previously stated during her book launch on August 30, 2024, that she would not run if there was a by-election in Petauke Central due to her other commitments. She confirmed that her name would not appear on the ballot for the elections on February 6, 2025, although she remains grateful for the support of the Petauke Central community.
She expressed hope that the electorate would reflect on the lack of representation in recent months and choose a suitable candidate who could effectively partake in national governance. Siliya also reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for development issues in Petauke and across Zambia, planning to continue engaging with the people of Eastern Province as they address developmental challenges moving forward.
