Dandy Krazy, the renowned music artist whose real name was Wesley Chibambo, has passed away at the age of 47, as confirmed by the University Teaching Hospital (UTH). In a statement from UTH Adult Hospital public relations officer Nzeba Chanda, it was revealed that Chibambo succumbed to his injuries at 01:42 hours after being admitted following a serious road traffic accident.
Mr. Chibambo sustained multiple injuries in the tragic accident that occurred near Kapiri on the Great North Road on New Year’s Eve, which also resulted in the deaths of four other individuals. He was admitted to the UTH early on January 1 and underwent an emergency surgery later that day. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he remained in critical condition until he was declared deceased.
The hospital expressed its condolences to his family and the public during this difficult time. Dandy Krazy was celebrated not only for his impactful music, including the hit “Donchi Kubeba” which gained significant prominence during the 2011 elections, but also for his vibrant personality and humor. In recognition of his contributions, President Michael Sata awarded him the Grand Commander of the Order of Freedom on Independence Day in 2011.
police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga disclosed the identities of two of the deceased from the accident: 30-year-old Christopher Muyembe and 25-year-old Makofi Humphrey, both traveling with Dandy Krazy in the Toyota Allex. The drivers of the other vehicle involved, a Nissan Hardbody, and a passenger from the Toyota Allex remain unidentified. The bodies have been taken to the Kapiri Mposhi General Hospital mortuary for further identification and post-mortem examinations.
