The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced Nora Hauptle as the new head coach of the Copper Queens with a three-year contract. Hauptle, a former defender for the Switzerland national team, was introduced at an event held at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, attended by FAZ president Andrew Kamanga.
In her speech, Hauptle expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she received and thanked Kamanga for the trust placed in her. She highlighted the potential of the Copper Queens and committed to giving her utmost effort to elevate the team’s performance. Hauptle acknowledged the high expectations following the team’s bronze medal achievement and expressed her goal of leading them to further success, including qualification for major tournaments like the World Cup. She emphasized the importance of making the right developmental strides for the team.
Kamanga stated that one of the primary objectives for the Copper Queens is to win the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July and to qualify for the 2026 tournament, which would serve as a foundation for aiming at the 2027 FIFA World Cup.
Additionally, Kamanga mentioned the inclusion of local coaches in the technical staff to ensure skill transfer and long-term growth. He emphasized the importance of having competent local coaches lead national teams and noted that FAZ is investing in their training.
Kamanga also expressed gratitude to the Zambian government, particularly President Hakainde Hichilema, for their support in facilitating Hauptle’s appointment. He acknowledged that this move reflects a broader initiative to enhance women’s football and promote excellence within the sport.
